Welcome to the Moving Forward Family Services’ website. Moving Forward Family Services consists of like-minded counsellors and social workers who are committed to supporting our most vulnerable communities. We operate with little bureaucracy and hierarchy, with the goal of providing responsive services to our clients.

We are a counselling service that is not funded and therefore operate on cost recovery. Our low cost and free services are delivered by fully insured, fully supervised interns on practicum or volunteers with a background in counselling or social work.

We also can refer clients to private fee-based clinical counsellors who provide services to those who cannot afford traditional private therapy rates.

Contact us to arrange an appointment:  778-321-3054 NOTE: Low cost and free services are only offered at our Surrey and Vancouver sites. Requests for free services requires proof of no/low income

We have counselling with Clinical Counsellors for $35 for individuals and $50 for couples and families with no waits, pay what you can services with Masters Degree students of waits of up to 4 weeks, and free services for those with low income, with students or volunteers at certificate, bachelors or Masters degree with waits of up to 8 weeks.

We also have the $35-$50 services in Surrey, Vancouver (the Downtown Eastside area) and Abbotsford  offices. Our low cost and free services are only available in Surrey and the Vancouver office.

Interested in booking a counselling appointment?  Call and leave a message at 778-321-3054 or email counsellor@movingforwardfamilyservices.com with the following information:

Again, our low cost services are only available in Surrey and Vancouver.

Our free services have limits of 6 sessions, after which time a Client must provide proof of income to continue to access free services.

Moving Forward Family Services announces:

Walk-In Outpatient Counselling Clinic (for Intakes) in Surrey and Vancouver

Looking for Counselling where you will not be turned away due to not being ‘eligible’ or because of your financial circumstances? Want services with minimal to no waits?

We believe emotional health services are as important as physical health, and just like you can go to your doctor / a walk-in clinic when you are needing to see a doctor for your physical health, we believe you should be able to have ‘walk-in’ services for emotional/mental health as well.

Therefore, we are now offering drop-in Open Intake at our Newton location! At intake you will see our intake workers who will conduct a short assessment/intake (no cost). You will then be given priority in seeing a counsellor (priority over clients who call and leave a text or voice message or e-mail and priority over those referred by paper referral).

Effective immediately our intakes will be held:

TUESDAYS 2 pm – 6 pm

Address: 103 – 12827 76th Avenue, Surrey
(corner of 128th and 76th, look for the All Care Medical Clinic). Entry is through room 101 (which faces towards out towards 128th Street).

415 Alexander Street, Vancouver (inside Jim Green Residences)

If you cannot attend drop-in, you are still welcome to text/call 778-321-3054 or e-mail counsellor@movingforwardfamilyservices.com

Please do not drop-in at other times as sessions are otherwise by appointment and we have no admin available to meet with you

Coming soon: walk-in services at our Vancouver and other locations!

“Counselling Without Walls”

Coming Soon! 2017 MFF 2nd Annual Fundraiser Gala, Oct 28th. Watch for ticket sales in the next couple months

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead

Cannot afford $100 – $150 or more per hour (if you can, we encourage you to look for Private Therapists within the Community), and do not want to wait for one-year or longer on a wait list for public services? Then contact us!

We operate on a ‘pay what you can’ service delivery model. If you can only pay a nominal amount (services are provided for as low as $5 per session) then that’s fine, we will not turn you away.  If you can pay, we expect that you should – however you can decide how much to pay (however, if you wish to see a Registered Clinical Counsellor, minimum fees apply).  Note if you have coverage for counselling services, you would be expected to access that coverage (and have it billed at traditional rates) before accessing our subsidized services.

If you can afford to pay  – know that what you pay goes right back into the agency and helps pay for program supplies, insurance and other expenses. Seeing 1000 clients a week, with 20-30 new clients per week, we operate as a collaborative with minimal administrative expenses.
